Lifeguard Spotlight: Kasey Simon

We’re back with another installment of our Where Are They Now series, introducing Kasey Simon!

Becoming a lifeguard is not just a summer job, it’s a real life experience! Many of our lifeguards continue on to pursue successful careers in a variety of fields. We wanted to shine a spotlight on some of our previous Guard for Life lifeguards to see what they’re up to and how becoming a lifeguard impacted their career.

Where Is He Now?

Kasey first started with American Pool in 1996 as a lifeguard, working at Heather Ridge HOA in Baltimore, MD. He loved that pool and quickly became a beloved part of that community that summer. Ben Basch, our current Chief Development Officer and previous President of American Pool New Jersey, was his Regional Manager. From there he became a seasonal supervisor for the next two summers and after college joined the company full time as a staffing director for the Baltimore area.

After holding a few staffing/training/recruiting roles, together in 2001, Kasey and the company made the decision to start United Work and Travel as a subsidiary to American Pool, focusing on international recruitment and Cultural Exchange Programs. Luckily, Kasey and his team are still focused on these same missions today, only on a much larger scale.

We asked Kasey some questions to learn more about his experience as a lifeguard for Guard for Life and how it impacted his life.

What were your favorite duties as a lifeguard?
In addition to maintaining a safe environment, I enjoyed vacuuming the pool. It always brought a sense of peace and instant gratification.

What are some of your favorite memories as a lifeguard?
I enjoyed interacting with the community on a daily basis. I made good friends and was included in many community events all summer.

Which of your lifeguard skills do you believe helped you in your future achievements?
Completing weekly schedules helped me prepare for the next steps in my staffing career.

Did you receive any recognition while participating in the Guard for Life program?
Yes. I was Lifeguard of the Month on two separate occasions.

Is there any advice you would offer current/future lifeguards?
Lifeguarding is still the best summer job around! It can be fun, rewarding, interactive, and help towards all future goals!

Thank you, Kasey, for being part of the American Pool family, we know you’ll continue to do great things at United Work and Travel!
