Attending an orientation will help you learn valuable skills you will need to be successful as a lifeguard for American Pool this summer. Attendance at one of the orientations listed below is mandatory for all guards prior to beginning work for the 2017 Season.
City of Atlanta – Maddox Pool
Calling all swimmers! American Pool is offering a Lifeguard Camp for those who would like to become an American Red Cross Lifeguard for the Summer 2017 season. This camp doesn’t offer swim lessons, but the opportunity to improve your swimming skills in order to become a certified Lifeguard.
The following skills are required to register for the Lifeguard Training course:
- Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session
of the course
- Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and
rhythmic breathing, utilizing front crawl & breaststroke techniques
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs, place your
hands under the armpits to demonstrate ability
Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the
water. Swim goggles are not allowed
- Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve
a 10-pound object
- Return to the surface and swim 20 yards to return to the starting point
with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath
- Exit the water without using a ladder or steps

American Pool is currently hiring applicants for lifeguard jobs in Georgia for the summer pool season. As a lifeguard, your primary responsibility is to maintain a safe swimming environment by enforcing all rules and regulations of the pool and surrounding area. Lifeguards are also responsible for checking and maintaining chemicals, vacuuming and basic upkeep of the pool and facility throughout the day. This is a seasonal position from May – September.
Requirements: All lifeguards are required to have their current Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED certifications. Applicants must be at least 15 years old to take the Lifeguard Certification course. American Pool accepts lifeguard certifications from the American Red Cross, Ellis, YMCA, Boy Scouts and Canada’s National Lifeguard certification.
You do not need to be certified in order to apply for a lifeguard position. We offer training classes before the summer starts, and we highly recommend you get certified in the winter or spring to secure the position you want for the summer.

Pool Attendant jobs
As a pool attendant, your primary responsibility is the upkeep of the pool and facility throughout the day. In addition to the upkeep of the pool, the pool attendant is also responsible for checking pool passes, greeting pool residents, cleaning the bathrooms, checking and maintaining chemicals, vacuuming the pool and taking out the trash. This is a seasonal position from May – September. Jobs go quickly, so apply today!
Requirements: Applicants must be at least 15 years old. Must be a team player, personable kind and have good communications skills.
As an on-site pool manager, your primary responsibility is to supervise staff between two and 10 lifeguards while maintaining a safe swimming environment by enforcing all rules and regulations of the pool and surrounding area.
A pool manager is responsible for the supervision of the pool staff, assists with scheduling and confirmation along with chemical maintenance and record-keeping. This is a great opportunity for those that have held lifeguard jobs but want to step up and have more responsibility and get management experience. This is a seasonal position from May – September. Requirements: All pool managers are required to have current Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED certifications. Must have good communications skills and have at least two years of lifeguard experience. Previous management experience is preferred, but not required.

American Pool is currently hiring a part-time seasonal staffing assistant in the Alpharetta area. It’s a great position for a college student!
As a staffing assistant, your responsibilities will include: general office work such as data entry, data management and filing, assisting with making phone calls, lifeguard orientations and helping to fill open shifts in the schedule. You must be detailed oriented, have excellent time management and organizational and communication skills. You should be proficient in Google Docs and the Internet. This is a part time seasonal position (April – September) and requires a flexible schedule, which includes working evenings and weekends, A prior swimming pool background is not required, but is helpful.
