5 Ways to Make 2017 Your Best Year Yet

We’re ready to start off 2017 with a bang! What are your plans for this year? Here’s a few things we think will help make 2017 your best year yet.

Cook For Your Health – As fast food restaurants and junk food rule the world, learn a skill that can help you lead a healthier lifestyle. Cooking can be fun and rewarding, especially when you get to eat the reward! Studies have shown that those who cook at home consume less calories than those who don’t. Eating at home can be cost-effective as well; many times you finish your fast food meal still hungry and end up spending extra money on more food. Take your hard earned cash to the grocery store — stock up on fruits, veggies, and other good stuff you can make your favorite recipes with. Check out a cooking show on the Food Network Channel or a cooking blog to help you get started!

Learn Something New – Sometimes it’s easy to stick with old habits and forget just how many awesome activities there are in our world. Make this the year to learn something new, something that will challenge your body and mind to shape you into a better person! With every new activity comes new challenges and frustrations. Everyone starts somewhere, and even the greats like Michael Phelps or Steve Jobs made mistakes while learning. Don’t get discouraged; remember to take time to absorb all the new information you’ll gain from this journey. You never know what a new skill could teach you — become the architect of your own life and make it unique!

Join a Team – Being part of a team can be one of the most valuable experiences of a lifetime. Learning social skills, making friends, and challenging one another are just a few of the amazing things you can learn from joining a team. One of the best teams you can join is a team of Lifeguards. Becoming a Lifeguard looks great on resumes, builds responsibility, and has flexible hours with great pay to earn part-time or full-time money over the summer. Head over to our jobs page to find an open position near you. Give it a try, you never know what new great adventures are waiting!

Cross Something Off Your Bucket List – Always wanted to visit the grand canyon? Reel in a deep ocean fish? Go sky diving? Stop making excuses and cross off those bucket list items! Even if something seems unreachable, make it your goal this year to reach it. Take the chance to give yourself an unforgettable memory, and the satisfaction of finally accomplishing something you’ve wanted for years. Remember that every action needs to be driven by your passion to complete it, believe in the possibility and you can achieve your goals. Take the Polar Plunge! Swim with dolphins! Everyone has a bucket list item they can achieve this year.

Spend More Time Outside – Vitamin D is good for the body. The best place to get it: the sun! Take an extra 30 minutes (or more!) every warm day this year to spend out in the sun. Take your usual lunch break and sit outside, or maybe have your morning coffee out on your front step as you wake up for the day. There are many different ways to fit in more sun to your daily routine. This summer, remember being cooped up in your house all winter layered in sweaters and warm socks. Let that memory be the reason to get yourself outside on those warm sunny days.

We’re ready for summer, are you?
