Lifeguarding, The Perfect First Job
Being a parent of an emerging adult is both rewarding and challenging. We all want what’s best for our kids and parents have to balance providing support without doing too much. Part of being a parent is teaching your child responsibility and preparing them to navigate the real world and Guard for Life is here to help with the perfect first job for your teen! After weeks of being indoors, a job spent outdoors by the pool might be the best thing for your child.
Several Positions to Choose From
Guard for Life is more than just lifeguards… American Pool employs thousands of lifeguards, head lifeguards, front desk attendants, pool attendants, pool managers, and gate guards every year. While lifeguards and head lifeguards require many hours of training and certifications, preparing for work as a pool attendant or gate guard isn’t nearly as intensive! Your young person has several options to choose from when it comes to getting their start with working for American Pool. Our professional recruiters will make sure applicants are matched to the best possible position for them at a pool convenient and close to home.
Promotes a Healthy Lifestyle
It’s no secret that lifeguards must maintain a healthy lifestyle to do their job effectively. If you’re looking for ways to keep your kids active and get them outdoors, lifeguarding may be the perfect opportunity for them! Being a lifeguard helps promote a healthier lifestyle and will greatly increase physical activity, even if your child is already pretty active. Did you know that 2 ½ hours a week of water-based exercise, like swimming, can decrease the risk of chronic illnesses? Lifeguarding is a great way to improve overall health and promote a life of wellness. Since we don’t allow screen time while on duty for safety and customer service reasons, our summer positions are a great way to get a break from apps and laptops.
Skills That Last a Lifetime
Lifeguarding and working for American Pool is a fun summer job for your teen, but it is also a highly important job that comes with lifelong benefits. Becoming a lifeguard helps teach responsibility, offers great pay, flexible schedules, and creates lost-lasting friendships.
Guard for Life Lifeguards don’t just use the skills they learn during the summer months. These skills will help carry them through some of life’s toughest situations.Training as a first responder in CPR and AED operation will help them be calm during emergencies and possibly save a life in their community. Staying focused, being accountable for your responsibilities, and asserting yourself are just a few of the life lessons our lifeguards learn. Not to mention, these skills will look great on college applications and career-level job applications. Colleges and employers want to see skills in time management, leadership, teamwork, professionalism and responsibility. These lessons are all taught to our lifeguards and staff who utilize these skills each and every day both while on and off duty and for the rest of their lives. It’s no surprise that several of our lifeguards have worked their way up to career-level positions with American Pool.
We know a first job can be a huge step for both teens and their parents. Most positions are seasonal when young people are out of school and we can place your teen at a pool close to home. When lifeguarding, your teen can effectively manage a busy school and extracurricular schedule while also having an easy commute to work each day, making both of your lives a little easier. Letting teenagers venture out into the real world with more freedom is never easy, we hope American Pool’s Guard for Life Program can help prepare your children for the next steps in life.
